Community Guidelines

How we keep TRY’s Community kind, safe and useful for every learner.

The same as in the TRY app. Being reviewed before TRY launches.

Help each other learn

TRY is for learning together: ask questions, answer kindly, share what helped you. Everyone here is learning. These eight rules keep it a good place for all of us.

1. Be kind

No bullying, insults, threats, or making fun of anyone, in posts, comments, photos or names.

2. No hate

Nothing that attacks people for who they are: race, ethnicity, language, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, where they come from or how much money they have.

3. No sexual content

No sexual words, photos or videos, and nothing that shows private parts, ever. Most people on TRY are children. Sharing sexual content of a child is a crime, and we report it to the police.

4. Keep your details safe

Never share your phone number, WhatsApp, social media, address or email, and never ask anyone for theirs. Someone who wants to move you off TRY is a danger sign. Posts with contact details or links aren't shown: edit them to take them out.

5. No spam, adverts or selling

Don't advertise, sell, or post the same thing again and again. Applying to a university and most bursaries is done on their official website, and nobody needs to be paid to apply for you. TRY never asks for your password, ID number or bank details.

6. No sharing exam answers

Help each other understand, but never share answers to a test or exam that is still being written.

7. Be yourself

Post your own work and photos. Don't pretend to be someone else, a teacher, a school or TRY.

8. Don't harm anyone on TRY

Anything else that hurts someone, puts them in danger or breaks the law is not allowed either.

How TRY keeps it safe

Our safety checks look at every post, comment and photo before others see them. If something might break a rule, it isn't shown, only you see it, with a note saying why. Students can also report anything: tap ... on a post, a comment or a person. Reports are private.

What happens when a rule is broken

We remove what broke the rule and tell you which rule. A first time is a warning. A second time pauses your account for a day, a third time for a week: you can still read, but you can't post, comment or connect. A fourth time closes your Community account (Practice and Explore still work). Something very serious, like sexual content of a child or a real threat, closes it at once. A warning counts for 90 days.

If we got it wrong

You can ask us to take another look, once for each decision, and at anything our safety checks hid. Someone who did not make the decision looks again. See every decision in Me > Settings > Account status.

If something is wrong

Tap ... on a post or a person: Report it, Block them (you won't see each other) or Mute them (they leave your For You). TRY Learning and TRY Help are TRY's own pages.

Need help now?

If you or a friend is not safe or thinking of self-harm, talk to someone today: SADAG suicide crisis line 0800 567 567 (24 hours, free) or Childline 116 (24 hours, free). Talking about how you feel never gets you in trouble on TRY.
